Plans buy capacity, never privacy
Why TACENZA Chat has Free, Plus and Pro, what each one adds – storage, devices, bots, file size – and what no plan will ever change.
TACENZA Chat has three plans: Free, Plus and Pro. Paying gets you more room – more storage, more devices, more bots and larger files. It never gets you more privacy, because everyone already has all of it. This post explains how the plans are built, what they cost, and what stays the same whatever you pay.
What every plan gets
Privacy is the foundation, so it isn’t something we sell. On every plan, including Free:
- end-to-end encryption and protected chats;
- disappearing messages;
- groups, with no member limit;
- safety numbers and the same account security.
Spam and abuse limits are the same on every plan too. Paying doesn’t let an account send more to strangers.

Prices include VAT where it applies. Free has no time limit.
Some features in the plans aren’t built yet: advanced themes and customisation, advanced search and early access. The pricing page marks them Soon, and we don’t sell them as if they exist.
Why capacity
TACENZA Chat is built so the server stays blind. Anything that would teach it something new is off until you turn it on, and says exactly what it reveals. A plan that sold privacy would break that: people on Free would be less protected than people who pay. So the plans sell room and convenience instead.
It also means we never need to learn more about you to make money. There are no ads, we don’t sell data, and there’s nothing to gain from reading your messages – we couldn’t anyway.
What happens if you downgrade
Nothing is ever deleted because your plan changed.
- Over your storage limit: your files stay. New uploads are paused until you’re under the limit.
- Over your device limit: every device stays signed in. A new device can sign in once you’ve signed one out, in Settings › Devices or at login.
- Over your bot limit: every bot keeps working. Creating or switching on another bot waits until you’re under the limit.
Cancelling works the same way. Your plan stays until the end of the period you’ve paid for, then your account moves to Free, with everything still in it.
How paying works
Payments go through Stripe, on Stripe’s own pages.
- Stripe gets from you your email, your payment details and, where tax requires it, your address.
- Stripe gets from us only a random billing reference and the plan you chose. Never your username, contacts, messages, files or keys.
- We keep the billing reference, your plan and its status, and for each invoice the amounts charged, taxed and refunded. We never have your name, email, card or address.
There’s one privacy cost we want to be clear about. To count storage per account, the server records which account’s storage each attachment uses. That means it knows who sent a message that has an attachment. Text messages are unaffected, and the Privacy Policy says so.
Where things stand
Plans and billing are built and tested, but before we charge anyone, the terms for paid plans need legal review – including the EU right of withdrawal, refunds and VAT. Until then, the paid-plan sections of the Terms of Service are marked as drafts.
TACENZA Mail isn’t part of these plans. Mail doesn’t have billing yet, and will get its own plans when it’s ready.
