Claims are open – get your TACENZA username
You can claim a TACENZA username now, before the app launches. A claim is a real account, with a recovery key and three invite codes.
Usernames on TACENZA are open for claiming, before TACENZA Chat itself launches. A claim isn’t a waiting list or a reservation. It’s a real account: you pick a name and a password, save your recovery key, and the name is yours. When Chat opens, you log in with the same name and password.
How to claim a name
Go to chat.tacenza.app/claim and type the name you want. The page checks the rules as you type and tells you whether the name is free.
- Pick a name and a password.
- Your device does a short piece of work before the claim is sent. This slows down anyone trying to claim names in bulk. It takes about half a second on a computer, and a second or two on a phone.
- Save the recovery key you’re shown.
That’s it. You get your claim number, and a claim card that your device draws for you to keep or share.
Save your recovery key
Your password encrypts your keys, so nobody can reset it for you – including us. The recovery key is the only way back in if you forget your password. It’s made on your device and shown once, and we never have it.
Without your password or your recovery key, nobody can open your account. Keep the recovery key somewhere safe and private: anyone who has it can take over your account.
Which names can be claimed
- Reserved names can’t be claimed.
- Names that look like other names can’t be claimed either, so nobody can pose as someone else with a name that only differs by a look-alike character.
- Names of 4 characters or fewer open later, in waves.
The server never stores your username in plain text – only a hash of it, and a hash of its look-alike form so two names that look the same can’t both exist.
Invite codes
Every claimed name comes with 3 invite codes to pass on. Each code lets one person claim a name.
One device can claim one name without a code. After that, claiming another name on the same device needs an invite code. At times, claiming may be invite-only for everyone, and the claim page says so when it is.
TACENZA counts how many codes are used, never who made them or who used them.
Keeping your name
A claim expires after 6 months without a login. Logging in, or keeping TACENZA open, renews it. You can see how long your claim is kept for, and if it was close to expiring when you log in, you’ll be told it has been renewed.
We only keep the month you last logged in, not the day. That’s enough to know when a claim runs out, and nothing more.
Your name, for good
A username is yours while your account exists. Once TACENZA Mail exists, names are never given out again – not even after an account is deleted.
Until then, we’ve said renaming will be free. Renaming isn’t available yet; it will be built before Mail launches.
What we know about you
Very little. A claim is a username and a password, and nothing else: no email address, no phone number. The server stores:
- a hash of your username, and your public keys;
- your claim number, and the month you last logged in;
- how many invite codes you’ve made.

What happens at launch
Every claim becomes a working TACENZA Chat account. You won’t need to sign up again: log in with your name and password, and your chats start there.
